Editor's Note: Earlier this month, I traveled to FBI Headquarters for an exclusive interview with FBI Director Kash Patel inside the Bureau's newly established Director's Strategic Information Center (DSIC). The conversation explores the Bureau's reform agenda, operational priorities, and the challenges confronting federal law enforcement. Watch the complete interview below.
For most Americans, the FBI is an institution they encounter only through headlines. Major investigations, national security threats, violent crime initiatives, and counterterrorism operations often become public only after critical decisions have already been made. Rarely does the public have an opportunity to hear directly from the Director of the FBI in an extended, unscripted conversation about the challenges confronting the Bureau and the vision guiding its future.
Earlier this month, I was invited to FBI Headquarters for that conversation.

Director Kash Patel welcomed me and Retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent Chris Hinkle inside the Bureau’s newly established Director’s Strategic Information Center (DSIC) for what was the first long-form interview conducted from this remarkable facility. Designed to provide senior FBI leadership with real-time operational awareness during critical incidents, the DSIC also served as the backdrop for a wide-ranging discussion about the Bureau’s mission, leadership, and future.
As a retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent, I approached this interview from a perspective shaped by two decades inside the Bureau. Rather than focusing on headlines or political soundbites, my goal was to explore the philosophy behind Director Patel’s leadership and the reforms he believes are necessary to strengthen one of the world’s premier law enforcement organizations.
The result is a candid, 52-minute conversation covering some of the most consequential issues facing the FBI today. Whether you’re interested in federal law enforcement, national security, or the future of the Bureau itself, I believe you’ll find this discussion informative and thought-provoking.
